Schwandorf, 31 May 2011 - Nabaltec AG's growth trend continued strongly in the first quarter of 2011, as revenues increased by 44.7%, from EUR 24.4 million to EUR 35.3 million. Nabaltec's revenues were up 14.2% from the fourth quarter of 2010, formerly the highest total in the company's history. The strong growth in earnings also continued, as Nabaltec's EBIT margin in the first quarter exceeded the 10% mark for the first time, with EBIT climbing to 11.0% of total performance. In absolute terms, EBIT more than quadrupled, increasing from EUR 0.9 million in the first quarter of 2010 to EUR 3.9 million in the reporting quarter. Earnings after taxes and non-controlling interests were strong in the first quarter, EUR 1.6 million. This represents an improvement of EUR 1.9 million, since the same figure in the first quarter of last year showed a net loss of EUR 0.3 million. Earnings per share were EUR 0.20 in the reporting quarter, up from EUR -0.03 in the first quarter of last year. 2010 as a whole Nabaltec's revenues were up 54.2%, and earnings also swung much higher relative to 2009. 'We were somewhat surprised by our strong revenue growth in 2010, but the outstanding development in 2011 has been the fact that earnings growth has clearly outpaced revenue growth. A double-digit EBIT margin for the year as a whole is and remains our medium-term target', said Johannes Heckmann, member of the Nabaltec AG Management Board. Both business divisions posted growth over the first quarter of last year, with revenues in the 'Functional Fillers' division up 45.2% in the reporting quarter and revenues in the 'Technical Ceramics' division up 43.6%. Revenues in the 'Functional Fillers' division increased from EUR 16.6 million to EUR 24.1 million, driven above all by the outstanding growth in fine precipitated hydroxides, i.e. eco-friendly flame retardant fillers, e.g. for the wire & cable industry. Meanwhile, the 'Technical Ceramics' division continued its very strong development, with revenues increasing from EUR 7.8 million to EUR 11.2. From a regional perspective, Nabaltec's dynamic growth in the US continued. This was true both for the flame retardant fillers manufactured in the US by the Nashtec joint venture and for the products of the 'Technical Ceramics' division. At the same time, international growth was very broad-based and sustained, as revenues were up by at least 40% over the first quarter of last year in all regions. About Nabaltec AG: Nabaltec AG, with registered office in Schwandorf, a chemicals business which has received multiple awards for innovativeness, manufactures, develops and distributes highly specialized products based on aluminum hydroxide ('ATH') and aluminum oxide, as well as other raw materials, on an industrial scale through its 'Functional Fillers' and 'Technical Ceramics' divisions. The company's product range includes halogen-free flame retardant fillers and eco-friendly additives for the plastics industry. Flame retardant fillers are used e.g. in cables in tunnels, airports, high-rise buildings and electronic devices, while additives replace stabilizers containing heavy metals in PVC processing. Nabaltec also produces base materials for use in technical ceramics, the refractory industry and catalysis. Unlike halogenated flame retardant fillers, the products manufactured by the company's 'Functional Fillers' division contain no hazardous substances and do not require separate disposal. Rather, the company's flame retardant fillers actually decrease the development of fumes hazardous to human health and the environment in the event of fire. Nabaltec maintains production sites in Germany and the US and plans to continue to consolidate its market position by expanding capacity, further optimizing processes and quality and making strategic extensions to its product range. On the strength of its specialty products, the company strives to attain the market leadership in each segment.
